Pottery Dipping Bowls Pistachio

Clemmie founded Wattle and Pot after spending some months in a remote part of Transylvanian in the heart of Romania. Living in a rural village she spent time exploring the region with its slow gentle pace and got to know the people. One family she met was the mother and daughter team Doina and Ileana whose family have been potters for generations. They work only in the Spring and Summer when it is warm enough for the clay to dry.  Each item is thrown by hand in their home studio before skillfully decorating each piece in a traditional design. Using a cow horn  with a goose feather nib, the glaze is poured freehand. The designs are Doina and Ileana's interpretation of the designs made famous by a local master potter Vitctor Vicsoreanu.

Once dried the pottery is then stacked tightly in a tradional wood-fired kiln in the garden shed. The art of keeping the kiln at the right temperature is tough especially in the height of the summer when they need to keeping stoking the fire and then finally emptying the still hot ceramics.
